Global Warming- A Successful business opportunity
Global warming has been one of the fastest growing macro business industries of the past decade. From what started as an initial hypothesis has since been proved, disproved and is now undoubtedly and unquestionably a real and present threat to our way of life.
The drive to increase attention has been a mix of Government drive and Consumer demand, pulling numerous industries, including the Automotive and Energy production companies into an increasingly environmentally friendly way of thinking.
As popularity continues to grow, increasing numbers of businesses are beginning to take the opportunities Global warming presents. Global warming is being exploited by many through selling of renewable energy sources in new, innovative methods to such things as clearing waste, recycling, minimising heat loss from a building and marketing of new energy efficient household appliances.
There are obvious benefits with this, in that, with increased media attention through advertising and marketing leads to greater awareness and may in turn cause a surge in popularity. This in turn can lead to consumer peer pressure (as we all feel the burden to recycle) therefore it further helps to galvanise us all into action to reduce our carbon footprint.
However, there are companies and organisations whom attack the vulnerabilities of the public, by highlighting their insecurities and plying to their worries, utilising the “doomsday scenario” to push through sale of their product. This invariably occasionally succeeds and may end up in the consumer acquiring a fairly inefficient, or highly inflated priced item, such as a micro wind turbine in an inefficient central urban location.
Companies and organisations, therefore have a crucial role to play in meeting our energy demands, whilst reducing our CO2 emissions. Thus, if we are to consolidate and push further with reduced greenhouse gas emissions, we need to encourage greater competition between business and the relative industries. We need to harbour, nurture and encourage a new “Space Race” similar to that witnessed during the 1960’s. As Global warming may be resolved in one or two ways, either we completely downsize our energy demands/needs or we seek technological advancement to tackle our problems. There is optimism that new technology may come to the rescue such as SBSP (Solar based Solar Panels) to Hydrogen Fusion and Fuel cells, and thus to maximise this possibility we need to tailor our competitive markets, ensuring these are aligned with our overall planetary aims of negating the ever intensifying warming of the earth.
Despite the potential catastrophic effects Global warming may have on business in the UK and elsewhere, at present it is currently a hotbed of commercial activity, contributing significantly to a thriving economy. The irony is that, despite its downcast projections for the future, its current existence brings with it greater opportunities for a wealth of differing industries
United Kingdom is the windiest country in Europe, so much so that we could power our country several times over.
